Is It Safe To Visit the Dentist During COVID-19?

Regular visits to Byers Station Dental in Chester Springs, PA are still important during the pandemic. Our team follows all CDC safety guidelines closely. This helps make sure that both patients and staff stay healthy during routine dental work. We wear personal protective equipment during all dental exams, routine dental cleanings, and dental emergencies at our dental office. This is because coronavirus spreads through droplets in the air that can infect someone by getting into their eyes, nose, or mouth.

How we perform infection control

At Byers Station Dental, we always have made infection control a top priority at our Chester Springs, PA office. We follow all infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We stay up-to-date on all new guidance and apply them to our office. Dental safety is most important to our staff. We have high-speed evacuation systems, which increase safety for our team and patients. This suction device draws out a large volume of air and reduces the particles that leave the mouth.

What to expect at your dental appointment

When visiting our dental office:

  • You may be asked about how you’re feeling or if you’ve recently been around others who exhibited coronavirus symptoms.

  • You will have your temperature taken.

  • You must wear a mask in our office.

  • You must limit who you bring with you to your appointment.

  • You must use hand sanitizer when you enter our office.

We ask that you wait in your car until your visit. We will text you when we are ready for you to come inside. There will no longer be magazines, beverages, or toys in our waiting room, as it can become difficult to ensure those items are disinfected in between patients. We are offering fewer appointments to limit exposure in between patients. For patients 60 and over, we will be offering special appointment times to decrease their exposure to other people in our office. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms within 48 hours of your appointment, please call our office.

Is having a dental cleaning safe right now?

At Byers Stations Dental, we don’t recommend delaying regular dental visits. This is because your teeth cannot heal themselves, so when you have a dental problem, it will continue to worsen until it is treated. Also, when plaque is left on the teeth, your risk for developing tooth decay or gum disease increases. Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease and is reversible. Thus, if we cannot detect it when it first develops, then it may not be treatable. This is why it’s important to continue having regular dental cleanings, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Should I come in for a dental emergency?

You should never ignore a dental emergency. Our dental team is experienced in treating dental emergencies. When left untreated, they can cause serious health problems.

Call our Chester Springs, PA dental office if you’re experiencing:

  • Severe bleeding in the gums

  • Severe tooth pain

  • Swelling in the gums or face

  • Suspected infection

  • A cracked or broken tooth
